Future Balance Adjustments

After examining the game’s current balance, the development team noted the following problems:

• The combination of Meteor Cudgel’s potential with the Double Saber Gear:
  • Lets it generate a high amount of whirlwinds.
  • Makes it easy to dish out high amounts of damage.
• Performing too many of these whirlwinds also causes a bug where they display incorrectly.
• In addition, Elysion’s potential, “Innocent Appearance” appears to be really powerful.

Since this can affect the balancing of future updates, they have decided to nerf them in the following ways:

• They will place a cap on the number of whirlwinds simultaneously occurring through the Double Saber Gear.
• They are also going to nerf the values for “Innocent Appearance.”

As a followup on the changes made towards customized technics, they plan to nerf them in the following ways.

• They will reduce Ice Fang Na Barta’s power.
• They will reduce Umbral Na Megid’s power.

In addition to distributing the All Skill Tree Reset Pass (mentioned in the Sep. 2nd article), they plan to release some form of compensation to all users in the future. More details will be announced in a future posting.

Base Customizations

Players will use the energy source known as “Gran” to awaken crew members in cryogenic stasis. As they spring to life, they can be entrusted with managing the operations of various facilities. Players can customize their base, and even transform it into a Japanese style town with a shrine gate and all.

Item Shop (Level 2)

Players must first collect materials after defeating enemies, and use them to produce items at the various facilities. Each of these facilities can be leveled up, increasing the kinds of products that can be created through them. Their designs can change as well, for example, level 1 shops are basically a stack of boxes. At level 2, they start to resemble an actual shop, with a sign overhead in the ARKS font.

The Weapon Shop is one such facility that can be used to produce weapons. These weapons can have different properties based on the “cores” used upon creation.

The Armor Shop

You can reduce the impact of enemy attacks—through the power of Gran—by equipping “Shield Units.” Just like weapons, the performance varies based on the items used as materials. Be on the lookout for powerful enemies, as they have a higher chance at dropping quality materials.

Awaken the Crew

Cryogenic Stasis aka Cold Sleep

Most of the Delta Variant’s crew is in cryogenic stasis after the crash landing. After collecting some Gran, you can use it to awaken the crew members from cryogenic stasis. These crew members may accompany you as party members, or manage the various facilities around the base.

Cold Sleep Counter

From the “Cold Sleep Counter” you can awaken the following types of crew members:

• Generalists
• Soldiers
• Support Crew
• Humans
• Newmans
• Casts
• Hunters
• Rangers
• Forces
• Idols
• And more…

This counter also contained an area to input a password, but details about it are unknown.

New Characters

Introducing Orcus and Sharon. Orcus, the hunky fella, serves as the combat squadron leader and instructor for the Delta Variant. Orcus will be voiced by Akio Ōtsuka best known for his role as Solid Snake. Sharon, a calm and gentle cast, works as a research staff member of the Delta Variant. Sharon is voiced by Kanae Itō known for her roles in To-Love-Ru and Rusty Hearts.

New Operators

Operator: Kisara

Operators are characters who relay status reports and give advice during a quest.  Phantasy Star Nova will introduce a new operator known as Kisara, voiced by Chiwa Saitō, Emilia Percival from Phantasy Star Portable 2! Though slightly outspoken, Kisara relays information with preciseness and speed; but at times she might come off as strict for the staff’s safety.

But she’s not the only operator, Ritia, the person in charge of medical care, will also appear as an operator when certain conditions are met. She reports quite differently from Kisara, listen out for it.

Aside from Halos and Piles, here’s a list of weapon categories and the classes that can equip them.

Resonance of Fate

Phantasy Star Nova will collaborate with Resonance of Fate to bring you costumes and weapons from the main protagonists. As both titles are developed by Tri-Ace it seems rather appropriate to have a collaboration of this caliber. Reanbell (Leanne), Vashyron, and Zephyr’s weapons and costumes were confirmed so far as part of the collaboration.

Phantasy Star Nova just announced a collaboration with Star Ocean 4, Valkyrie Profile, and Resonance of Fate.

The Resonance of Fate collaboration will have costumes and weapons from Zephyr, Vashyron, and Leanne (Reanbell). In addition, Leanne will also appear as an NPC within the game!

Arks Ship Competition Event!

The Arks Ship Competition is an event where all ships compete for the highest score in each round. Speak to Arkuma in the shopping area to access event information and the prize shop.

Round Objectives / Stars and Points

Each round has a set objective, whether it is to clear a certain quest or defeat a certain enemy. By clearing these objectives, you’ll earn points you can contribute to your group, and stars you can use to purchase items at the Arkuma Prize Shop!

Stars	Stars are acquired by clearing the objectives. Use the stars to purchase items at the Arkuma Prize Shop. In each round, there’s a [Borderline Number] for stars. Reach this number to earn stars and items as a bonus—once per round. In each round, there’s a cap to the number of stars you can earn.
Points	Clearing the objectives contributes points towards your group. These points will determine the order the ships are placed at the end of each round. Their placement determines the amount of “victory points” achieved. Learn more about this in the “Scoring” tab. There’s a cap to the number of points you can contribute per round.

Rewards Info

This tab lists the rewards you can acquire per difficulty level. For example, in the screenshot above, clearing the targeted quest on Super Hard nets you 30 stars and 30 points. The points themselves will be contributed into the group’s overall score. You can do these over and over until you reach the cap. Click on the “Objectives” tab, to learn more about the cap.

Each ship is paired with another to form a “Ship Alliance.” These alliances are separated into Rappy Groups.

Rounds and Victory Points

The event is divided into several rounds which start every 12 hours. At the end of each round, points contributed by players are tallied to determine the winning group. Each group will then earn “victory points” based on the order in which they place.

The group with the most victory points at the end of the entire event will become the champions!

Results and Boosts

The Rappy Races visualizes the current standings each round. The results will be posted on the large monitors after the round is complete.

Groups that ranked high could acquire EXP, Rare Drop, or other boosts. Groups that ranked low can acquire Point Boosts. Whatever boosts you receive will be listed in the round information window for you to confirm.

This tab also lists the schedule for the boost event which usually occurs in the next round. For example, since Round #1 started on September 26th at 12 AM, then the boost period will apply September 26th at 12 PM.

Final Results and Arkuma Prize Shop

The final results will be announced on the large monitor at the conclusion of the entire event. Each participant will receive stars as rewards and be able to purchase exclusive items based on their group’s final standing.

Introducing a new field on Planet Wopal. The mysterious facility Luther left behind has surfaced from the sea. Similarly to the coastal area, the sunlight changes with the passage of time. Be on the lookout for cannons along the field and aim them at enemies who stand in your way.

New Enemies and Bosses

This time you’ll fight two bosses at the same time. Leomadulard scatters combustible oil and slides around the field, while Nept Casadora wields his lance and releases fireballs.

Bal Rodos makes his triumphant return along with some different attacks since the last time we faced him. With 12 players on the field, we can all join forces to defeat him!

There’s all sorts of colorful enemies to behold at the facility.

Mag Level Cap Rises

The Mag level cap is rising to Lv. 190! That’s fifteen more levels for mags at the current cap.

Timed Ability Level Cap Rises

The crafting level cap for Timed Abilities is now Lv. 50. The new crafting recipes not only covers the new field, but extreme quests as well. In addition, tier 3 crafting recipes like [Rear / Forest 3] and [Arm / Coast Exploration 3] will be added.

More Daily Crafts!

The Daily Crafting System will now cover Timed Ability Installations. Some Technic Customizations and Weapon Extension requests have changed to allow for higher ranking recipes. New NPCs will be added like Frosty who’s in charge of requesting Timed Abilities, as well as, Io, Azanami, Saga, Katori, Klotho, and Afin.

Team Name Changing Function Adjustments

• They’re making the Team Name changing function reusable in 7 days instead of 30 days.

Title Reward Item Changes

• They’re changing some of the items obtained through Title Rewards.
• You can acquire useful items like [Grind Success +20%] and [+100% Triboosters] among other things.
• Players who already acquired the reward items, can access the Title Counter after the October 8th update to obtain the new items.

Matter Board Adjustments

• Clearing a node on the Matter Board will automatically set the guide marker to the most appropriate node for advancing the story.

Weapons of High Ranking Extend Recipes Adjusted

• They’re raising the “Minimum Damage Power” for extended weapons that require [Silvania],  [Silvadest], or [Silvagrimo] as materials.  This should help make the damage variance a little more stable.

Interface Improvements

• They’re improving the interface for the window that shows information about the unlocked achievements and licenses after crafting.

In the previous article, we introduced the concept of customizing the base. Players can install various facilities around the base and task crew members with managing their daily operations. These facilities can be leveled up providing greater effects while players advance through the game. Today we’ll briefly look at a few more facilities.

The Restaurant and Other Facilities

The Restaurant

You can prepare all sorts of meals at the Restaurant by acquiring the required ingredients.

Each meal provides different effects like [Atk Up], [Def Up], or [x Elemental Damage Up]. Choose the appropriate meal for the upcoming adventure, as these effects last until the quest is over.

In line with this, we introduce a new character called “Hyperion.” He will be voiced by Hōchū Ōtsuka, who is known for his role as Jiraiya in Naruto. As you may have guessed from his design, Hyperion belongs to Delta Variant’s food supply division. He has the habit of comparing everything to food, and though he’s cheerful, he becomes distressed during severe food shortages.

The Gran Booster

Installing the Gran Booster increases the amount of Gran energy you’ll acquire. Furthermore, it can also decrease the GP costs for Gran Arts.

There’s also other things you can install aside from the two mentioned above:

• Item Surveying Device: Increases the item appearance rate during quests.
• Enemy Radar: Increases Rare and Boosted enemy appearance rates. Stationing the right kind of crew member here increases the effect.

Core Abilities

We talked a bit about the “Armor Shop” in the previous article, but we’d like to go more into detail about the materials you’ll be using to create these items.

The properties of these items will change depending on the materials used in the process. Cores are one such material that comes attached with a special ability.

Say for example you picked up several “Darker Cores,” each with a special ability attached. In the screenshot above, a Darker Core with [Flame Resist 1] was used in the process which increases the elemental resistance for fire. However, you could have chosen a Darker Core with [Technic 1] to increase T-ATK, or [Ability 1] to slightly increase all stats.

Ring Generators at the Item Shop

In the demo, you had to use Halos to create these platforms in the air called “Ring Fields” when fighting the Gigantes. In the official version, these “Ring Fields” can also be generated through the creation of an item called the “Ring Generator.” These consumable items will allow you to generate “Ring Fields” without having to switch weapons. Just tap the icon on the screen to activate it.

Crew Member Traits

You’ll have to awaken your crew members from cryogenic stasis if you want to bring them along in battle. Crew members can have different traits that let them specialize in a particular area. For example, crew members could have a “Battle Type” trait where they focus on either [Attacking] or [Healing + Support].

Armed, Boosted, and Rare Enemies

There’s all sorts of lifeforms you’ll come across on Planet Machia. Among them, you’ll encounter armed, boosted, and rare enemies. Armed enemies are biological weapons equipped with machine guns, missiles, or other armaments. Most notable of these types of enemies are the Gigantes!

Boosted enemies look just like regular enemies, except with a a golden color. You can earn more experience points by defeating them.

Rare enemies appear in a different color from their non-rare counterpart. Defeating them gives you the chance to acquire rare materials.

Mid-Sized Gigantes

Gordos, a medium sized Gigantes covered in spikes,
swings its spiked arm to attack.

Ditoas, a mid-sized lizard Gigantes,
has missile pods and fires lasers from its back.

If you enjoyed the first demo, you can expect another demo coming later this fall. The second demo features character creation, and lets you experience the opening areas of the game. It also lets you transfer over your data to the official version once it finally releases. See you next time.

In Phantasy Star Nova, players can awaken crew members in cryogenic stasis from the various capsules available at the Cold Sleep Counter. Previous articles mentioned inputting a password at this counter, but details were unknown at the time. 

It seems this password is used to defrost a “special capsule” containing a character inside. One such character is “Sega Eigyō Man,”  a salesman who shows his strength when stationed at the Item Shop.

Players can obtain the password by trying out a demo which will be available at certain dates and times at specific stores across Japan. Afterwards, they must wait for a game update in mid-December to enter the password to unlock this NPC.

Halloween Event

The Arks Lobby transforms into a Halloween-themed spectacle, with pumpkins, bats, and ghosts decorating the lobby. You can complete the Halloween Bingo during the event, where you’ll receive boost items and Twin Machine Gun [＊ジャックペポ] Jack Pepo as a reward.

Trick Or Treat 3 is an Emergency Quest that takes place at night in the desert. Various bosses are expected to appear, thanks to Nyau showing up, like Quartz Dragon and Big Varder. Don’t forget to head to the deepest area to see the three Naura sisters wearing their Halloween-themed outfits!

Episode 3: Chapter 2

Huey, sensing a delicate situation between Sarah and KlarisKrays, was trying to bridge the distance between the two and bring them closer together.

Huey asks various people for assistance in investigating Luther’s abandoned research facility on Planet Wopal. And as usual, you also appear for assistance.

Unlimited Brave

This scratch contains Zeno’s Council of Six outfit, “Cry Savior,” along with three other outfits created in that theme: Magia Savior, Roava, and Freeva. In addition, players with humanoid characters will be able to dress up in the new cast parts and Casts can dress up in the Humanoid outfits. (Edited for clarification.)
