Limited-time Summer Event

Summer Rappies will be releasing a new feature this time around. For the first time in PSO2′s history, from level 61 onwards, the Summer Rappies will be dropping all-class items with native PAs and Technics.  Once equipped, they will allow access to certain PAs or Technics regardless of the player’s current class. The level 1 equivalent will be available for players who have not yet learned the specific Art; but for everyone else, it will apply the current level.

It’s time to head back to the shores for Beach Wars 2! This emergency quest, which appears for a limited time, will feature level 70 enemies on Super Hard from the Coast and Seabed. Expect to see NPCs like Huey, Patty and Tiea, Azanami, Lottie, Io, Zeno, and Echo appear in swimsuits in Emergency Trials across the field.

Summer Xie will be handing out new client orders as well. Clearing the orders will net you various rewards like the [Lilli Shark] launcher and [Camalots Mask].

Irregular’s Summer Scratch

Sega teams up with The Irregular at Magic High School (Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei) to bring you costumes, hairstyles, and weapon camos from the main characters. Aside from that, there’s going to be even more summer costumes and accessories coming on August 13th.

PSO2es Episode 3

• Obtain an Extreme Pass or Casino Coin Pass from the Reception Counter in PSO2es.

The Phantasy Star Nova demo will be releasing on August 12th, 2014. In this demo you’ll fight against the Gigantes ‘Agrios.’ Please note that character creation functions, story progression, and base functions, among other things, are not available in the demo. Please choose from one of the sample characters available for selection.

Since the game is currently in development, some aspects of the demo will be different from the final version.  The demo features a single player mode and it can support up to four players in multi-player mode via Ad-Hoc connections. The demo requires around 1.2 GBs of space, and will be available for download at the Japanese Playstation Store. Guides will be available once the download goes live! Stay tuned..

In Phantasy Star Nova, players will go up against these biomechanical beasts known as the Gigantes. There are several different kinds of Gigantes, and the most recognizable one so far is the Gigantes ‘Agrios’ available in the demo. Today we’re going to take another brief look at two other Gigantes which were mentioned in previous articles.

Gigantes: Gration

The Gigantes ‘Gration’ is around 41 meters long and 45 meters high. Its main attraction are its infinite blades cutting through everything. It’s a unicorn-type Gigantes with chainsaws sprouting from its body. It can also become enraged performing charge attacks. Use the various weapon types at your disposal to see if you can destroy the blades.

Gigantes: Alkyone

The Gigantes ‘Alkyone’ is a jellyfish-type equipped with flamethrowers. It can attack in various ways such as releasing a huge fireball. Getting exposed to its ink can also darken the screen. Like the Gration, it seems it too can become enraged.

Phantasy Star Online 2 SEA will be celebrating the independence day for Singapore on August 9th, and Malaysia on August 31st, 2014.

NPC Shea will be making her debut on the SEA servers delivering Client Requests for the respective countries. Today we’re getting our first look at the unique items and lobby decorations delivered exclusively for the SEA version.

The weapon contained in this magazine is an all class weapon with “Moment Gale” attached as its native PA. This magazine will go on sale August 12th, 2014.

In other news, Shougai (a PSO fansite) posted some of the extend level information for the Jet Boots.

• Jet Boots: Beg. Extend Level 4 (479 S-ATK) and (496 T-ATK)

This puts Jet Boots in 3rd place for T-ATK and 6th place for S-ATK in comparison to all weapons at Beginner Extend Level 4. However, this doesn’t factor in Dual Blades as that information is not available yet.

In addition, Rare Enemy Triggers seem to have some hidden effects. Rare Enemy Triggers are items that forcibly spawn a Rare Enemy. When you defeat the rare enemy summoned by that item, the rare drop/rare enemy rates go up. The value and duration of these effects are unknown at this time.

Lastly, Party Bonus effects are going to increase when Episode 3 arrives. Party Bonus applies an EXP boost depending on the number of people in a party. Currently it applies a 10% bonus for 2 members up to a 20% bonus for four members. However, the bonus will rise up to +40% in the Episode 3 update. But there’s a catch, the +40% bonus applies to real party members, you won’t be able to achieve that number with NPCs.

Here are the new bouncer skills posted by Shougai (a PSO fansite). Not everything is explained in depth but it gives you a glimpse at what to expect. Some information was discovered from a magazine and has been inserted into some of the skills descriptions.

Photon Blade Fever (Active Skill)

• Doubles the number of photon blades.

Switch Strike (Active Skill)

• For Jet Boots only.
• Changes the dependent parameters [T-ATK → S-ATK]

Bouncer Mag (Unknown)

• Converts the Mag’s DEX into S-ATK
• Converts the Mag’s DEX into T-ATK
• The rate of conversion is unknown.

Craft Mastery

• Stat bonuses are given to a crafted weapon when equipped.
• Stat bonuses are given to a crafted unit when equipped.
• The details of these stat bonuses are unknown.

Break Stance (Active Skill)

• Bonus damage is given to parts that are breakable.
• It is unknown if this bonus is kept after the parts break.

Elemental Stance (Active Skill)

• Bonus damage when attacking the enemy with the weak element weapon.
• It is unknown if this is effective from technics by said weapon.

Critical Field (Active)

• Support your allies.
• Produces a field in your surroundings with an effect that increases the critical rate.

Elemental PP Restorate F (Active)

• Support your allies.
• Produces a field in your surroundings with an effect that recovers PP when attacking the enemy’s weak element.

Deband Attack PP Restorate (Unknown)

• Occurs during the Deband effect.
• Increases the value in which normal attacks restore PP.

Elemental Burst (Unknown)

• When the Jet Boots Gear’s element returns back to its original, it produces an “elemental explosion” causing damage to its surroundings.
• It activates when cancelling (through weapon actions) the element of the Jet Boots that was overwritten by a Technic.
• These elemental explosions (or bursts based on the name) can damage and cause status effects to enemies.
• (Weapon Actions are commonly used by the Shift Key)

You may delete the _precede folder after confirming you’re able to login after August 27th’s maintenance.

Demo Information

Changes from PSO2

The game pretty much plays exactly the same as PSO2 with some slight differences; like rare enemies getting prefixed names on Planet Machia.

 

Hunter Class

Hunters are given a new sword GA which spins them vertically into the air like Tornado Dance. From here they’ll promptly slash down at a diagonal angle.

 

This GA could be best described as the Partisan’s Over End. It wraps the weapon in a sword of light.

 

In this Double Saber GA, you jump forward into an upside-down spin attack. The distance it travels is based on the enemy’s location, so it won’t let you pass over them.

 

With this Knuckle GA, you basically punch into a ball of light that expands with each hit. Then on the final blow, you thrust forward and it explodes.

 

PSNova doesn’t have a dedicated “Weapon Action” button, so things like ‘Guarding’ have to be placed on the weapon palette.

 

Ranger Class

Rangers get access to Twin Machine Guns, which brings us a brand new GA. Basically, they launch themselves into the air, and shoot at the ground. After they land, they spin around and shoot from each side like the latter half of Messiah Time without the slow motion.

Since PSNova doesn’t have a dedicated “Weapon Action” button, we were unable to perform a Stylish Roll. We can only speculate for now that it might be something you equip to the weapon palette.

 

Force Class

Technics work similarly to PSO2 with one interesting change. You can only perform charged Technics in the demo. This tends to be quite annoying as you’ll still consume GP if you quickly tap the button.

When comparing the technics available in the demo, Gi Foie stands out as having better fireball animations than PSO2.

 

Buster Class

Pile Shooter fires piles that latch onto the enemy. It’s primarily a situational GA used mainly for the Gigantes. From here you can optionally switch to another weapon type, and attack the piles directly.

 

Burn Smash is a Gran Art that swings the Pile sort of like a golf club.

 

With this Gran Art, you perform a forward somersault into the air, and shoot a Pile down at an enemy.

 

 

As the weapon name suggests, this Gran Art creates Halos around the character. The Halos are randomly fired at enemies dealing tons of damage.

 

If you’ve been following the previews, you’ve most likely seen this Gran Art before. It’s called Resonance Cannon, as it shoots a large Gran energy beam.

Quick Impressions

Phantasy Star Nova for all intents and purposes is just an alternate take on Phantasy Star Online 2. It feels like they took the original prototype and upgraded the game on a slightly different path. Aside from the new content, everything pretty much feels exactly the same, with some graphical tweaks and upgrades here and there.

It feels like this game is going to have a more strategic approach than PSO2, since you won’t have everything at your disposal at the beginning. Don’t forget, you have to build up your base with Gran after all.

 

The graphics are gorgeous, if not a bit bloom heavy. The character models seem just a step below the PC version. This new planet feels quite alien compared to PSO2 where the stages felt ripped straight from Earth.

 

The controls are nothing to write home about. Due to the limited number of buttons on the Vita, some actions that were convenient to do on PC are now a little bit cumbersome. The first main gripe is the lack of a “weapon action” button, where now you have to push two buttons instead. Step dashing also requires two buttons, but luckily you can change that in options.

Casting technics from the sub-palette is definitely going to feel awkward for PC players. Long-tapping on the screen to cast them takes your hands off the controls for too long, disrupting the flow of gameplay. Perhaps a better solution could be using both the arrow keys and rear touch panel in a fashion similarly to the way it’s done with gamepads in the PC version.

 

The addition of Halos brought a nice change of pace from the battles of PSO2. Now you have to plan where to place these floating platforms to get a better shot at the weakpoint. Interestingly, these platforms can also break when the Gigantes charges ahead.

As for the music, well…I was never a fan of Motoi Sakuraba, so because of that, none of the songs so far are convincing me to purchase the soundtrack. It would have been interesting to hear Tri-Ace utilize the Sympathy music system, but sadly none of the songs appear to be dynamic at all. Instead, music would play only when enemies appeared, then go silent afterwards. I guess in a way, this makes the game feel more atmospheric, so it’s not entirely a bad thing. I’m just hoping they get Go Shiina to make a few songs.

 

One final note, they changed the voiceover for the Emergency Code. The new voice sounds extremely excited, and it gets ridiculous after finishing a Gran Burst.

Phantasy Star Nova showed off a new trailer at Sony’s Pre-TGS conference. The trailer offered a brief look at the Gigantes Alcyone and Gration battles. There also appears to be some slight changes from the Demo. For one, you can now activate Halo platforms from the sub-palette menu. In addition, the footage showed players performing a Stylish Roll, which was impossible to do in the Demo.

The Arks Ship Competition (Episode 3 Cup) will be returning on September 24th, 2014. Not only will we have different ship alliances, but certain rules will be changing as well. Some of these changes include; boost periods applying to the next round and not the next day ahead, and adjustments to the way the boosts are calculated so that they aren’t increasing too much.

Additionally, they increased the cap on the amount of points you can contribute to your group. You can also expect to see some pre-scheduled Emergency Quests, appropriate for the current event. Lastly, ships who place in 2nd ~ 5th place will now be allowed to purchase from the same prize lineup at the Arkuma Prize Shop.
