Border Break (a multiplayer mech arcade game) is teaming up with PSO2 in a Cross Collaboration. Players who achieve certain conditions during this campaign period can receive special prizes. In addition, “Cougar NX” will appear as a boss in a quest available for a limited-time titled “Border Breaking Chaos” (alternatively: The Chaos that Breaks Borders). Under direct supervision of the Border Break development team, Cougar NX will use his signature animation, sound effects, and music during the boss fight. The 1 Year Anniversary, part of the “Phantasy Star Thanks Festa 2013″ online event, shall introduce a new feature called “ARKS Bingo!” Each player’s bingo points are tallied up and used to unlock prizes to be distributed after the end of the event.

ARKS Bingo plays exactly how it sounds, but instead of calling out numbers, each square is cleared once the player achieves a specific objective. For example, one square may say “Grind a Weapon or Unit” and another may ask you to “destroy a blue container” or “feed an item to your mag.”

Players can receive rewards by clearing a line of squares horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. This will contribute to your “Bingo Point” score that is tallied with the rest of players to unlock prizes during the 1 year anniversary event.

Limited-time Quest: Border Breaking Chaos
Available: June 12th through August 7th, 2013

This new quest available for a limited time features an all-star cast of enemies from Forest through Sanctum. Fight the Vol Dragon, Zeshrayda, and even the ‘Masked Figure’ as he drops exclusive rare items.

Kuna Live Stage Event

Available: Mid June

Come see ARKS Idol Kuna perform live on the main stage in the shopping lobby! Bring your glowsticks and lobby actions and dance along as she performs one of her two hit singles “Our Fighting” and “Everlasting Eternity!” Stick around after the live performance and something else might occur.

Dark Falz Powers Up!

Available: Mid June

Dark Falz is back with a vengeance in two new beefed up versions of his Emergency Quests. Unlike his other EQs, these do not show up at random, and are announced ahead of time by the development team.

This time, since Dark Falz has higher HP, the ship will have to defeat even more Arms in order to advance to the next stage. Some of his attack patterns have changed and players may soon find themselves frozen when hit by long distance attacks. Both Falz Arms’ fingertips and his main form will drop new items in both regular and buffed up versions of this quest.

Phantasy Star Online 2 es is currently taking applications for players to participate in a closed beta test. Players can sign up on their Android 2.3+ smartphones at the official site until July 16th, 14:00 JST.  Players who participate in the beta test and reach level 20 in any class will receive several parting gifts for their time. Though no release date has been announced as of yet, PSO2 es is expected to launch sometime by the end of this year.

Today Sakai revealed footage of the next episodic “expansion” to Phantasy Star Online 2! Episode 2 launches July 17th, 2013 and will add a new race, new weapon category, and a new planet.

New Race & Class: Dewmans And Bravers

Female Dewman with two horns.

Male Dewmans with one horn.

Dewmans play on the offensive side with high attack power but low defense. The two physical features that separate Dewmans from other races are their separate eye colors and horns. Whereas females have two horns, males only have one.  Since your existing PSO2 characters cannot be converted into Dewmans, each player will receive 1 free character creation キャラクター作成権 pass accompanying the launch of PSO2 Episode 2.

New Weapon Category: Katana

New Weapon Category: Bullet Bows

The Braver class adds two new weapon categories, “Katanas” and “Bullet Bows.” Katanas are close-range weapons that can perform counters by just guarding your opponent.  Bullet Bows on the other hand are ranged weapons that can perform charged attacks.

New Planet: Vopar

After the battle with Dark Falz came the discovery of a new planet deluged in water. Scattered across the shores are strange facilities that are still in operation to this day. This field will introduce two new types of enemies, bird-like Darkers, and “Neptunians,” aquatic creatures native to this planet.

Planet Vopar: Coast Area

On the surface, Planet Vopar is a resort-like area where the Neptunians roam free. One distinctive characteristic about this field is how the day to night transition affects the Neptunian enemy’s behavior.  This field is home to two bosses, the Olgebran, a land shark type enemy, and the Val Rodus, who bears striking resemblance to PSO’s De Rol Le.

Val Rodus boss arena is a deck set inside a giant whirlpool with turrets and a capturing device that can reel him in. Use this opportunity to destroy the numerous parts on his body and expose his weakpoint directly!

So far the development team has referenced two Goetic demons, “Naberius” and “Amdusias.” I think it’s best to conclude that Planet ウォパル is a reference to ウェパル a goetic demon who can command the winds and sea to create terrible storms. Since her name is spelled as “Vepar,” the closest name we can form to match the Katakana is Vopar.

PSO2 News Bits

Episode 2 is going to give all players a Mini Room; it’s basically a free version of “My Room” with some limitations. So far they’ve only revealed that the mini room supports less room items than the regular version.

Support partners are like Partner Machinery from Phantasy Star Universe except this time you can set their race, gender, physical appearance, name, and class. There’s also a customization menu that lets them equip weapons, clothes, units, and weapon camos. They can assist with client orders even while the player is offline. Depending on their results, they can gain EXP, and even level up.

Phantasy Star Online 2 plans to release in several Asian countries in 2014. Gamania Digital Entertainment will launch PSO2 in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. AsiaSoft will handle the Southeast Asia territories in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia. Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

The localization process isn’t just limited to dialogue translations, rather, it will highlight the cultural differences of each territory through unique items and events. For example, players could see costumes and lobby events matching their native customs and traditions. In addition, some territories may re-record character voices to speak in their native languages.

On July 17th, Dewmans will join the cast of PSO2 as the fourth race. Dewmans have two special racial customizations. You can select different eye colors and position their horns.

You will not be able to convert a pre-existing character into a Dewman, however, once Episode 2 launches, everyone will be able to create a second character for free! Those who already have more than 2 characters will receive 1 free character creation pass.

Braver is a new class that has access to Katanas and Bullet Bows. Katanas are close ranged weapons that specialize in quick attacks, and through just-guarding the opponent can unleash a powerful counterattack.  Bullet Bows, on the other hand, are ranged weapons that specialize in charged attacks.

New Photon Arts, Technics, and Skills!

Hunter Skill

• Absorption: While Guard Stance is in effect it recovers HP when enemies die within a certain range.
• Massive Hunter: When activated, it reduces damage when hit and prevents the character from getting knockbacked and launched.

Fighter Skill

• Adrenaline: Extends the duration of the shifta and deband effect on your own character.
• Crazy Heart: Increases PP regen rate while your character is under a status effect. This also applies to PP gained from attacking enemies.
• Crazy Beat: Increases S-ATK while your character is under a status effect.

Ranger Skill

• Tactics Trap: Recover PP when a trap damages enemies.
• Power Bullet: Right after loading a special bullet, it increases R-ATK for a limited time.  (Seems to apply to Weak Bullet and Jellen Shot, etc…)
• Bullet PP Save: Reduces Photon Art PP consumption after loading a special bullet. (Seems to apply to Weak Bullet and Jellen Shot, etc…)

Gunner Skill

• Showtime Star: Raises the Max PP while Showtime is activated.
• S Roll Up: Increases attack damage during the Stylish Roll
• S Roll Arts: During the Stylish Roll, press the PA Button to release a powerful attack. Some PP is consumed.
• S Roll JA Bonus: Just-attacks from a stylish roll receive bonus power.

Force Skill

• Freeze Keep: Makes it difficult for enemies to become unfrozen even if you attack them.
• Photon Flare Boost: It increases the status effect inflicting rates during the Photon Flare skill.
• F Ignition Boost: Increases the power and range of Freeze Ignition.

Techer Skill

• Wand Lovers:  Maxes the Wand Gear Gauge while reducing your PP to 0

Echo, filling in for Xeno, has switched her class to a Hunter and wears a brand new outfit. She encounters Crabacan, a planet Vopar native who appears to be searching for someone… Chapter 1 “The Road to the Unknown” will release on July 24th, 2013.

Support Partners

Support Partners are NPCs that assist the player in various ways. They can perform activities for you even when you’re offline. Players can create their very own partner by clearing a specific client order. During the character creation process, you can customize their race, gender, class, name, and physical appearance. While they’re in your room, you can customize their equipment and clothing options. You can purchase extra support partners for 300 AC.

You can even take support partners along with you on a quest!

Although support partners are usually confined to your room, you can send them out to collect client order items for you. They’ll return home within a few hours to report on their findings and results of the quest.

Up until now, the only way you could access your room was through Premium Set or a My Room pass. Starting with the launch of Episode 2, all players will receive access to their very own free “Mini Room!” Unlike regular rooms, you can only place a small amount of furniture in your Mini Room.  (Mini Rooms have a total furniture placement cost of 5).

Arks Road System

ARKS Road is a tutorial-like system that guides players through the ins and outs of PSO2.

Follow the onscreen icon towards the next destination and complete the objective to receive a stamp on your card. Clear the entire stamp card and receive a prize!

Whether you’re tired of playing alone, or looking to expand your network of friends, the new team search function at the Visiphone compiles a list of all available teams in one convenient location. You can check the team’s status and send a message to the team manager.

• The blacklist sub-category in the friends list will close by default.
• The status window will display the amount of experience needed to level up a subclass.

• When a rare item drops, a message will display over the screen.
• The volume for the rare drop sound effect will remain consistent and is no longer affected by distance.

Quest Adjustments

• Enemy spawning in the Amduscia Time Attack Quest have been adjusted since it was easy for the Dragonkin to be defeated by the Darkers near the beginning of the quest.
• Relaxed the time limit for a timer switch at a certain spot in the Lillipa Time Attack quest.
• Made the map sizes narrower for the first three forest Arks Quests
• Adjusted enemy spawning for the following quests: Arks Search: Tundra, Rare Mineral Excavation, Subdue Caterdran, and Subdue Caterdransa.
• The Nab Rappy Capture quest will no longer fail if the Rappies escape.
• Improved the rewards for some Emergency Trails
• Adjusted the conditions that changes the weather on each field.
• Adjusted the tutorial in Chapter Zero’s story quest.

Enemy Adjustments

• R-ATK damage to the Gilnas/Gilnatch’s head has increased.
• Crabarda will receive the following changes; it will spend less time guarding, have increased damage to the weakpoint area, and will be much easier to damage all around.
• Corrected the Vol Dragon’s behavior so that it’s possible to interrupt it from continuously spawning pillars of flames when it changes from its later forms.
• Made it easier to hit the weak points on Spardan A and Spargun
• Adjusted the Digg’s reaction when hit.
• The Tranmizer/Tranzexia scratch attack collision range has been adjusted.

Other Changes

• Some client orders can be reaccepted in 22 hours instead of 24 hours.
• Some Item Collection, Enemy Attacking client orders have been adjusted.
• Relaxed the conditions needed to unlock Klotho’s client orders
• Increased the rewards for some client orders
• Relaxed the equipping conditions for some units
• Increased the number of team orders available each week to 4
• Relaxed the achievement conditions for the main route through the matter board.
• Buffed the medical drink sub-effects for “Weak Point Damage Rate Up”

**PlayStation Vita Players**

The Episode 2 patch requires 2.3GBs of space to install. If you already applied the previous patches, your memory card may not have sufficient space to complete the update. Since the patch and installation data can not be deleted separately, you must uninstall PSO2 and redownload the game. Installing the patch data from this point on should bring your entire PSO2 installation to 5,430MBs.

In regards to Datamining (OLD NEWS)

Section 9 of the User Agreement prohibits players from analyzing data and releasing game assets to the public prior to its official release. This action may force the company to suspend the player’s account or take legal action. (This notice may be in regards to a Japanese PSO2 blog that was recently suspended for leaking game materials and Episode 2 story content. )

After this, any character you create from the third character onwards will require Arks Cash.
